I have been involved with government and quality of life issues since I first moved here in 1985. In those days the island was divided between those who wanted development and those who did not. Over the past twenty years Longboat Key has experienced many changes and has always managed to remain a beautiful place to own a home.
I feel my two decade love affair with this island gives me a unique perspective of life on Longboat. During that time I have also been involved with government in Manatee and Sarasota counties and with the state department of education in New York State. These experiences have exposed me to the challenges confronting local and state level government. My experience has also taught me that citizen participation is an essential component of any successful government.
Over the past twenty years I have actively participated in numerous projects and programs on Longboat Key. I feel that I have demonstrated the ability to research the issues and to formulate optimal solutions.
Perhaps my greatest contribution to Longboat Key as a commissioner would be to balance the town commission with the town manager. I have the technical expertise to be able to ask all the right questions and to assure that the commissioners have a full and complete picture of projects and actions proposed by the town manager.
Sometimes it helps if someone has experience in project management and technical research.
